Class Structure

LRC teaches sculling and sweep rowing technique.

Sculling classes start first with learning the basics of the rowing motion on an indoor rowing machine ( "Erg").  After learning the basic motion students are typically placed in a boat ( "shell") with an experienced rower.  Students then advance to rowing in a tethered single shell.  By the second week many students are rowing on their own within the vicinity of the boathouse.

During the training students will be instructed on how to re-enter a single sculling boat in the event it capsizes.

Sweep rowing classes begin with rowers in team boats, learning the importance of working together. Our schedule this summer will give opportunities for both styles of rowing:

Rowing Instructional Programs

·         Cost: $150 per two week sculling Learn to Row session

 Novice Learn to Row Classes

·         Purpose: to teach beginners how to row

·        Cost: $150 per session (+$150 to buy an annual club membership)

·         Maximum # of seats: 8 per session

 Refresher Programs

                     Sculling: Refresher Course / Sweep to Scull

Class Dates:  May 13-17, 6:15pm - 8:15pm
 
This 10 hour class is appropriate for scullers or former sweep rowers (both established LRC members and new LRC members) who are familiar with the basic aspects of rowing and need/want to practice their sculling skills in a structured, coached environment.  Emphasis will be placed on balance, blade work and stroke timing as well as safe boat handling.  Please be prepared to practice boat re-entry from the water on the second night.
  
Cost:  $100 returning LRC members, $150 non-members or new LRC members (applied to membership once joined).
 
 
Sweep: Refresher Course / Scull to Sweep
 
Class Dates:  June 24-27, 6:15pm - 8:15pm
 
This 8 hour class is appropriate for former sweep rowers or scullers (both established LRC members and new LRC members) who are familiar with the basic aspects of rowing and need/want to practice their sweep skills in a structured, coached environment.  Emphasis will be placed on oar handling, blade work, stroke timing and body movement as well as safe boat handling. This is a great way to learn a new skill and get to know other rowers and find prospective boat/team mates.  **note: must have minimum of 4 rowers for class to take place.
 
Cost:  $75 returning LRC members, $100 non-members or new LRC members (applied to membership once joined).
